Iron Ocher
Iron ocher is a slimy bacteria buildup that clogs drains, damages pumps, and prevents proper function of the interior drainage system. Also commonly known as iron algae or iron bacteria, the reddish-orange deposits are a result of the presence of iron, oxygen and water in the soil.
Iron ocher can severely impact the functionality of an interior drainage system. Richtech now offers a simple way to mitigate the growth of iron ocher deposits in the sump basin and interior drainage system.
Ocher Blocker
Ocher Blocker is used to break up the slimy iron ocher so it can be flushed out of the system and pumped away. When added to water in the basin, Ocher Blocker will attack and break up the iron ocher deposits that have formed on the pump and along the basin walls. Its effectiveness increases the longer it can stay in the basin before being pumped out. In water with high iron bacterial content, it’s normal for a green color to appear while the Ocher Blocker is working.

TEST
To properly treat an iron ocher problem, you must first test the water in the system. Using a Biological Activity Reaction Test (BART) will give you an indication of the bacterial count within the water sample.
REMOVE
Removal of iron ocher from a basement waterproofing system can be achieved by adding Ocher Blocker to the water in the sump basin, loosening the deposits, and flushing the entire system.
PREVENT
After flushing the system, add Ocher Blocker to the basin and at each clean out port. This will help mitigate the growth of future iron ocher deposits. The frequency of service should be determined by the bacterial count as shown on the BART test.
